Chemical Supply FAQs
What is the best type of ice melt for cold temperatures?
There are several types of ice melt products designed for varying temperature ranges. Calcium chloride and magnesium chloride are two of the most effective options for extremely low temperatures, as they can continue melting ice well below freezing. Rock salt is a more affordable solution, effective in milder winter weather. Choosing the right product depends on your climate and surface material.
What is the difference between rock salt and treated salt?
Rock salt is a natural, unrefined salt used to melt ice on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. Treated salt, like those enhanced with magnesium chloride or coated with liquid deicers, can offer faster melting, longer-lasting results, and lower environmental impact. Treated salts also perform better in colder conditions and reduce bounce when spread, improving coverage.
What’s the benefit of using salt in swimming pools?
Pool salt is used in saltwater chlorination systems to naturally generate chlorine through electrolysis, which helps sanitize the pool water. High-purity salt minimizes scaling and equipment damage, keeping water clean and reducing the need for traditional chlorine products. It’s also gentler on skin, eyes, and swimsuits.
